Safety First

August 7th, 2018

Injuries occur every day due to a plethora of reasons! Being aware of your surroundings, knowing who to call in the case of an emergency and using resources available to you is key when dealing with an Emergency.  Injuries are the leading cause of death for Americans ages 1 to 40, but there are many things people can do to stay safe and prevent injuries.

Every day we encourage identifying potential risks for preventing unnecessary injuries and deaths. We also encourage raising awareness by offering creative ideas to engage workers, families and communities:

  • Distribute the downloadable NSM materials*
  • Create bulletin boards, newsletters or blog posts
  • Hold a safety trivia contest with weekly prizes
  • Make an activity out of identifying hazards where you work and live
  • Throw a safety fair, lunch ‘n learn or celebratory luncheon
  • Encourage others to take the SafeAtWork pledge at nsc.org/workpledge
  • Share posts on your social media channels using #No1GetsHurt
  • Provide safety training — watch for special NSM discounts or free opportunities

And remember to raise awareness about important safety issues like:

  • Preventing poisonings
  • Medication safety and prescription drug abuse
  • Driving, biking, and working safely
  • First aid and emergency preparedness
  • Preventing slips, trips, and falls

When everyone gets involved in reducing the risk of injuries, together we can make larger steps in creating safer workplaces, homes, and communities.
